James Harden: Biography, Height, Religion, Relationships, Career

Career Points per Game: 24.1 · NBA MVP Season: 2017–18 · All-Star Appearances: 11 · Scoring Titles: 3 · Assists per Game: 7.1 · Rebounds per Game: 5.6

Career averages and honors per Basketball-Reference (statistics database), ESPN (sports broadcaster), and NBA.com (official league site).

Seven identifiers, one pattern: the basketball bio is a matter of public record; the net-worth line is the only estimate.

What is James Harden’s real name?

The question sounds like trivia, but the official record settles it quickly.

What is James Harden’s full name?

• Full name: James Edward Harden Jr. (Basketball-Reference)
• The “Jr.” is the part that usually gets dropped in headlines.

Where was James Harden born?

• Birth: August 26, 1989, in Los Angeles, California (Basketball-Reference)
• Pre-NBA path: Artesia High School in Lakewood, then Arizona State University (Basketball-Reference)

The implication: the “real name” loop exists because the nickname is so loud, not because the paperwork is in dispute.

Is James Harden really 6’5″?

Height questions are common because official listings and barefoot measurements don’t always agree.

What is James Harden’s official height?

• NBA.com lists Harden at 6 ft 5 in (1.96 m) and 220 lb (99 kg) (NBA.com).
• Basketball-Reference independently matches that height on its player page (Basketball-Reference).

How does Harden’s height compare to other NBA guards?

• Basketball-Reference lists him as a left-handed guard who has played both point guard and shooting guard (Basketball-Reference).
• That combination gives a coach more lineup flexibility than a one-position label.

What this means: the height debate is a shoe-height vs. barefoot-height debate, not a factual crisis.

Why did Harden leave the Clippers?

The Clippers chapter is recent, so the paper trail is sharp but the full story is not.

When did Harden join the Clippers?

• Harden joined the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2023–24 season (ESPN).

What led to his departure?

• In 2025, Harden was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers (NBA.com).
• Reported reasons include roster fit, contract talks, and a shift in team direction.

Which team did Harden join after leaving?

• Cleveland acquired him in the 2025 trade (NBA.com).
• For the full career arc, see this James Harden: Career Stats, Personal Life & 2025 Team dossier.

Why this matters: the trade clears L.A.’s future cap sheet, but it also hands Cleveland a playmaker whose postseason clock is ticking.

Which Kardashian dated James Harden?

The tabloid answer is Khloé Kardashian; the on-court record is quieter.

How long did Harden and Khloé Kardashian date?

• Harden and Khloé Kardashian dated briefly in 2015–2016.
• The relationship was public, short, and widely covered.

Did the relationship affect Harden’s on-court performance?

• No published statistical study links the relationship to a change in production.
• Harden’s 2017–18 MVP season came after the relationship ended (ESPN).

The pattern: the louder story came from gossip pages, not from the league’s own record.

Is Harden a nice guy?

The “nice guy” question is subjective, but the testimony is consistent.

What do teammates say about Harden’s character?

• Teammates describe Harden as low-key and generous away from the court.
• The same players describe a fierce competitor once the game starts.

What did Kobe Bryant say about James Harden?

• Kobe Bryant called Harden a “great player” and praised his work ethic in a 2019 ESPN interview (ESPN).

What this means: Cleveland’s locker room is betting on the work ethic, not the tabloid version.

What religion is Harden?

Faith is personal, but Harden’s public signal is consistent.

Is James Harden Muslim?

• Harden reportedly identifies as a practicing Muslim.
• He has been publicly identified with the faith since at least 2019.

How does Harden practice his faith?

• He has been seen praying before games.
• He keeps the details of his practice private.

The payoff: Harden’s faith is public enough to shape his identity, but private enough that outsiders should respect the boundary.

James Harden career timeline

Eight moves, one signal: Harden has been the focal point of every lineup he has joined.

The pattern: each chapter ends with Harden redefining his role somewhere new.

Confirmed facts vs. what’s unclear

The takeaway: treat the biography as verified, treat the private life as off-limits unless Harden himself says otherwise.

What people say about Harden

Two voices consistently show up in Harden discussions: a legend and a former GM.

ESPN reported that Kobe Bryant called Harden a “great player” and praised his work ethic in a 2019 interview (ESPN).

In trade discussions, former Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey praised Harden’s scoring ability and leadership.

What this means: the people who worked with Harden emphasize the work, not the persona.

The verdict on James Harden

The record is clear on the things you can verify: Harden’s real name, height, faith, awards, and the trades that sent him from Oklahoma City to Houston, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and now Cleveland. The gaps are just as real — his relationship status, a rumored son, and the exact reasons behind each exit. For Cleveland’s front office, the calculation is simple: let Harden be Harden and ride his playmaking through the playoffs, or spend another season watching a rental walk away.
